scapegoat is an experimental saxophone and percussion duo. Close creative collaboration and multi-media projects form the basis of their pursuit for artistic innovation and expression. Programmes are designed to broaden and challenge the musical experience of the audience, through original works featuring live electronics, performer-controlled sonic and visual amplification, video and lighting design, and improvisation.

Formed in Paris in 2013 by Australian saxophonist Joshua Hyde and Canadian percussionist Noam Bierstone, scapegoat has performed in France, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, the US & the UK. They have completed residencies at Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute, the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester), Spread Art (Detroit), the University of Liverpool & New York University, and have performed at festivals and venues including the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Darmstadt Ferienkurse, City University (London), Constellation (Chicago), Infuse (Paris), Spectrum (New York), Kompakt (Zurich), IGNM Basel, Unerhörte Musik (Berlin) & NO HAY BANDA (Montreal).

scapegoat’s 2017/18 season will feature new collaborations with composers Pierluigi Billone, Michelle Lou, Sabrina Schroeder & Sam Salem, and residencies and performances as part of an Australian tour, a Californian tour, and at the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival.

NO HAY BANDA is a series of live musical events that aims to provide new outlets for artistic innovation and expression. Presented with the support of Suoni Per Il Popolo, programmes are designed to broaden and challenge the musical experience of the audience, showcasing the work of the young avant-garde that takes its roots in pop/rock, DIY culture and post-war experimentation.

NO HAY BANDA seeks to promote music born of a generation that sees no barriers between musical genres, theatre, performative art and contemporary culture. We aim to create a space open to a diversified audience, and to promote the aesthetics of international experimentation in presenting performances of this kind for the first time in Montreal.

NO HAY BANDA is formed by three performers based in Montreal: Geneviève Liboiron, Noam Bierstone and Daniel Áñez. Concerts are held Monday evenings at La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), a beautiful room located in a historic Montreal building.
